Religious Service

People from different regions have distinctive religions. I got a chance to attend religious service which was held by Nanjing Union Theological Seminary. It was the first time I came into contact with such sort of church filled with sense of saint, which made me a feel of respect and solemnity.

The sacred site is located at 390 Mochou Road. I arrived with my classmates on the afternoon of Dec.1. The beautiful name for the service was called “A Touch of Messiah”. As far as I know, the Messiah was a Christ, also a great religious lender who saves the world. Despite I just heard it from legend, it was still surrounded by mystery in my mind.

During the whole event, the hymn “Silent Night” left me deep impression. Following the fabulous lyric, I felt myself as one of the Christs praying for God. “Silent night! Holy night! Shepherds quake at the sight, Glories stream from heaven afar. Christ the Savior is born”. As you imagine, what a tremendous devotion of thousand of Christ was flowing into heaven. What a huge role the Savior plays as their reliant spirit support. In their eyes, they pray for lord Jesus as pray for peace, goodwill, making hearts rejoice and pure. It was Jesus that taught them to overcome hatred and evil, and enabled them to love one another. They devote themselves for Jesus as if we Chinese believe the existence of Buddhist. In fact, maybe those “Gods” live our hearts are fictions themselves, after all, on the other hand, they can work as a belief to inspire humans to go ahead, to strive for brightness.

Overall, we ought to show enough respect to these religious culture.

Go to a performance

On 2nd May want to Nanjing Olympic Centre to watch Vitas’s concert with my junior classmate Lee. I went there at 4 pm with my family; the concert didn’t finish until 8 o’clock.
The concert was really fantastic, and I enjoyed it very much. I became crazy about Vitas when I was a junior high school student. He is creative and inimitable because of his high voice; people call it dolphin’s sound. I admire him not because his unique caliber but also his inspiration.
As a Russian pop singer, composer, and fashion designer. He is most commonly known by his shortened first name, Vitas, or Витас in Russian. Much of his music is straightforward pop influenced by techno, and occasionally classical opera.
He has received much of his fame through Russian television and is planning to sign to entertainment labels in countries such as China, Korea, and Japan in order to expand to those markets. Vitas' 2000 video "Opera #2" has been forwarded frequently via the Internet which accounts for much of his worldwide recognition. Tour includes concerts in Russia, Romania and China. Vitas performed in Bucharest, Romania on 25 February. This concert was broadcast on romanian television networks
Overall, his performance always brings me a enjoyable sense and never tired of it. He has distinctive traits from others particularly due to his voice. I am willing to recommend you to get a chance to view.

volunteer experience

Further the classroom learning, to explore new areas need new work experience. Our school GCA provides all manners of volunteer work for choices that we could not only do contributions to the public,but also enjoy the opportunities of approaching this sophisticated and dynamic society. Leading Danish exchange students to visit around campus, teaching elementary school students, painting a stage backdrop for Fashion Show were all my precious experiences. I would rather say it's a brave attempt than only a piece of volunteer work.

Being a little guide for Danish students needs the greatest courage of all, so it became the most challenging task. At first, with a small talk, I learnt they could speak a fluent English, at least much better than me. I felt a bit confused- they also speak English as a kind of foreign language, how could they speak it so pretty well as if they were English native speakers? they told me English and Danish had many things in common that both languages belong to Latin words system. Unlike Chinese square words which completely differ from them. I thought it also solved my question why Chinese people have to regard basic grammar as the cornerstone and gateway of English learning. At the meantime, I explained to them the definite meaning of our school motto. As we reached our first destination- refectory and dormitory, unfortunately, it was not open that I was worried about whether it had affected Danish guys' moods. Actually, I noticed they were still wearing natural smiles which showed their dignified temperaments. After that, wandering across the playground to arrived at gym, I introduced some sports items we did in P.E classes such as Yoga. Sometimes there were always some language barriers formed when I Attempted to describe more complicated things, but they were conquered by my brevity later on.

Due to the remote-distance-journey in China, those Danish guys began to feel homesick spontaneously, so they just could show their zeal through delivering letters. My group members and I were in charge of translation for them in order to ensure them buy appropriate stamps. Our terminus was one produce market.
The Danish did not complaint any awful smell inside or appeared impatient complexion. On the contrary, they began to observe diverse vegetable,meat and grains, or had a try of native produce. Meanwhile, I taught them how to say some simple ways of asking prices so that the active atmosphere reached its climax.

Teaching a group of naughty and naive kids in Beijing East Road Primary School s also a remarkable thing. Those guys seemed very tired of English study. So except English conversations, the UNO cards play was another finesse to keep their attention. Every time I stated its rule in English,the translation with Mandarin was necessary, or they would not understand easily. It seemed a bit stuffy for, but I would grasp motivation from their gaze.

With approximately 20 hours' volunteer work, my horizons has been enlarged and I even feel myself as a harvest man who obtains abundant grain in fall. Everyone ought to have his own outlook to outside as when a person needs a name. It shows you are different from others. Going beyond the boundaries of current knowledge to make more new discoveries will be earlier acquired with this dog-eat-dog world.

ARTS & DESIGN 2

After a hard search, the Nanjing historical museum was finally found around Mochou Road. My mother and I reached there on Mar.7th. the title for this exhibition is called” witnessing the history” which display diverse sorts of relics in the past.

First of all, the whole exhibition was set with a dark background that totally made up a simulated atmosphere as tough I felt myself in the ancient realm. As you see in that photo, a delicate wooden boat matched with a row of paddle looks exactly cute. In my first glimpse, those mini paddles looked just like the tongues stretching out from children’s “mouths”, also the windows on the body of the boat were children’s eyes which was fully-opened. Meanwhile, the vertical sail was standing on the deck there in a great silence. What a peaceful way of life it have must been living! I felt it guarded there for welcoming us tourists. We witness it, and it witness the remote history. It also witness the shipbuilding industry, the developed navigation, and military force in our nation (even though it sounds a little bit inflated). The simultaneous perception caused was respect feeling for such a profound result of both labor and wisdom despite it was only a tiny exhibit for now. another architecture model like a temple was built in Han Dynasty, used as a graveyard for burial. It is a symbolized build in that dynasty which also was filled with a tinge of conservatism, only nobleman could have the ownership to use it.

At last, the figure of Buddha suddenly reminded me of the mouse head statue which was auctioned by French recently. That is absolutely caused indignation of Chinese because that treasure ever belonged to our nation’s but was robbed by French invaders during the First Opium War. Nowadays, there have been overtly moved to carry an auction out for benefits, which seriously spoiled the relationship with us for such a rude action. One Chinese citizen who live in France stands out to ask for that statue without paying any charge so as to declare the ownership and claim of our property. I appreciate and approve it for his intense ethnic feeling although there also exists someone think it to be against credit. As a part of PRC, there is no scope to tolerate something infringe our interests and against morality.

I believe that I have kept something in perspective through the excursion. Those historical relics made me can not help thinking more deeply instead of simply appreciating their appearances. That is why I could choose this exhibition.

Culture awareness

Exposed from many phenomenon, I am likely to be infected by various dishes. It is exactly hard to resist their temptation, mainly not only caused by my weak repellence, but also consisted in its exclusive flavor full of appeal. The evidence of my boom in weight is strong enough to express my loyalty to tasty food.

A pleasant day on Feb. 28th, had my parents company, I initiated another dishes journey in Cheng xian Street. The reason for reserving this restaurant is simple, it is located the close distance away from my school. Nobody dose not know one of the classical western dishes is beef steak. It one more times appeared on my menu selection without exception. By contrast with the past, beef steak here tastes not smooth and juicy even feel added much water. It also feel like gravy had evaporated already. My resentment was not broken up until the next dish came to shock my tongue. That kind of role was played by Paella – a special made Spanish dish of rice cooked with fish and vegetable. As long as you have a taste, its common name must be covered by its actual flavor. A tip for you – stirring the stuff in the whole until the flavoring penetrate all ingredients, you will enjoy the best quality as you want.

In short, the most obvious difference compared with Chinese food is that Spanish style is partial to be creamy and concrete while Chinese tends to be more salty even spicy which tastes more stimulative. Meanwhile, westerners prefer to Dutch Treat. As for environment there, dark background combined with color lights creates a vibrant hue, soft shade can be seen everywhere on the wall. Many foreigners gather there maybe have not adapt themselves to the local diet. I noticed that they never made a noise, whispering with enough politeness. That is why those people are welcome at any time and any occasions. The cooking time lasted for a little bit long whereas it had no bad effects on my mood. To my surprise, some of the waiters could speak a fluent English that seems like a wise strategy to attract especially foreigners.

American, Italian, French, even Swiss style food maybe has been already familiar by us. If you have no concept about Spanish style, it is silly to be tentative since it wastes both time and energy.

Personal Health

The more exercise, the healthier we are

Besides club and work experiences, physical activity can also not be ignored for it is associated with our personal health. Having a sound body is primary desire for everyone. Nevertheless many of us are always daydreaming about it instead of taking action as if there is pie in the sky. The latest tendency of staying at home, playing electronic products is getting prevailing, which directly leads to the large number of people suffering poor constitution. I was one of these instances in the past. Yet since I entered my high school GCA, I have increased the amount of exercise, and gained effect.

There are two values have big impacts on me. Going back to the latest campus sports meeting, because of the absence of one athlete in my class, we would give up the item of female 800-metre-race. With a challenged attitude, I was temporarily chosen to be substitute to compete. The confusion in all directions was invading me undoubtedly due to the lack of any practice before. I even forgot to make preparation for losing face. The competitors I faced were all well disciplined or had potential basis in there childhood. There was no time to worry about more at the moment the bomb rushed out of gun. At the very beginning, I got the first three without any effort, and that made me either proud or doubtful. The pride was going up till I was passed by one by one rival. The result of my failure as it is I can not afford my short of energy because I had run out of much energy at first. Seemingly, knack has to be regarded as one of the finesse to succeed. Eventually, I felt a gratitude for this participation, although I was in a out of breath, run-down state. Another lesson for me is that to be calm and sensitive instead of being proud at any time.

The next event is also an educational lesson. It occurred in a badminton match. Within the first go-around, I didn’t think my opponent’s skill would beat me as I had exceeded her on score for a long while. However, the misplay was bothering me out of control. I can not stop batting out-of-bounds continually. It must be results from the lack of wariness and neglected of game rules. Even if I didn’t save the unpleasant circumstance in that match, the victory I gained the second competition is a reward for my restored condition and the experience absorbed by the last time.

One more thing, I found that both two activities actually match to my personal fitness goals. Running is one of the laborious athletes that needs your persistence and fortitude. I want to harden my determination by this approach. Compared with that, badminton is more relaxing. The firm basis is a promotive account for me to continue it. There is a trouble in that I almost have no extra time in spite of weekends. Then it is better for me to study more efficiently in order to squeeze more time for sports. Above all, reciprocal effect is the best wish.

The first step access to community

Volunteer experiences maybe is general in western countries according to their form of consistent education also society system. They judge one student by regarding all of his aspects, not only by his intellect or exam results. In contrast, paying most of attention to study course is a very stable and stubborn situation in China I think. That is the reason why westerners are much more adaptable into society and get easier to hunt jobs. Portfolio asks us to make up for this shortage, and I spent some time on such projects. I am willing to have a detailed introduction.

At the end of the Chinese festival, I initiate my volunteer work in ”Phoenix International Bookstore” accompanied by my classmate Viola. After the amiable company manager gave out work scheme to us, we got to be busy as bees. The first main task was to rearrange the messy books. It seems such a simple thing but a little complex. For instance, I found that a book called “Obama Memoir” was laid among a group of science fictions. It was an obvious mistake of its location for sure, then I looked for its original “home”. Due to the vast number of books in piles, the difficulty of my target automatically increased. The worse of crowds of people almost drove me mad. However, a little rain would not make me quit. If I give up halfway, the whole process is abortive. I regained control of myself and insisted seeking for my need until it have been found out by asking employes and Viola for clues. As I have already rearranged books, I felt the hardship of working. Anyhow, after rain always comes the fair weather, unless you are indifferent to take responsibility.

During the whole procedure, even if Viola had the different missions from me, we still kept in close contact once one of us meet with difficulties so as to work more efficiently. I know collaboration can focus isolated individual idea and strength together. As for learning from company, I have gained a proficient manner of book classifying. Then clearing up my bedroom like this way is my target now since it can develop my autonomous habit. Besides, handicraft about making a pig with my teachers is another volunteer participation. I am chiefly in charge of panting. That was me first time to create a massive freak, all kinds of moods were surrounding me. In short, it promotes relationship between my workmates and me.

I really enjoy these work experience for I reached two significant purposes. One is working the well being of society, the other is collecting new insights for myself. It has a great value in that it can help make decisions in career, or supply strategies to handle problem. In conclusion, these affairs are worth encouraging. Furthermore, achieving a balance between both intramural study and extracurricular practice is needing our attention.

As soon as the first new semester commenced, a diversity of consequent school clubs appeared into our sight. It was completely a fresh feature to us that I was virtually unfamiliar with it for it had never set up any intramural clubs during my previous schooling. It is said that each of us has to select at least one interested item to foster a special extra skill which involves university life even career planning for the future. By reason of the reliance on music and the elegance of piano, I decided to join Piano Club without irresolution. In regard to the other one TV Series , I just intend to improve my spoken English.

When it comes to the experience in Piano Club, despite I had little basis on it before, I still retain zest for such an instrument. Hence, I present at our pointed locus persistently. You would always be able to appreciate touching melody either sentimental or filled with enthusiasm as long as the two excellent leaders appear in front of piano. They have taught novices like me some basic thing, such as the particular signs called notes and their corresponding tone on keys. Though I have no enough time and techniques to play, I just attempt to practice the same one or two simple tune until I gradually could play the whole of it even get rid of the notation. During the study of the tune, I felt it hard to remember the appearing order of keys that I made mistakes continually. That caused my impatience, but after a while I have restored my good attitude and continue my exercise. As to ensure that our club work effectively, while others were practicing, I always sat aside and listen respectively. Thus, our club maintains a harmonious atmosphere all the time. From this club, I have not only travelled through musical ocean, but interpreted the club strength that we were supposed to possess a heart of appreciation, never deny or laugh at any one’s skill level. The organization also exists weaknesses, like the unfixed time for training which changes very often.

Furthermore, the English movies creates a real and wide language environment for me. I think it is a relaxed way access to absolute English which probably makes us absorb it more rapidly, and smooths our moods the same time as well.

In general, I have accumulated some experience through these club events. They must be an essential component of education career beyond the GCA and university walls because it involves practical field trips which enable us to grips with our chosen realms. As every remarkable school wants well-rounded students, facing to so many kinds of top students who have specialities, and the need for your personal skill has never been greater. Let us value this chance to practice ourselves.

The progress made from public play

I can not help acknowledging that performing in front of extensive audience is absolutely able to strengthen my belief and courage, especially through this stage- GCA New Year’s celebration performance. I could never thought of being a “princess” until I was really chosen to act the main character—Snow White who is familiar to kids from all over the world. It was totally so astonished that I had to regard it as a great challenge.

After a series of hard rehearsal, the chance of stepping up the stage of the assembly hall was truly coming at the end of the year. Due to the great burden pressing on me, I could not help being strained even being out of my breath, though it was a bit inflated. After a while, it was my turn to show my own acting. This scene is the go-around between the hunter who was sent out by the evil queen and the innocent Snow White. As the strong hunter shot to me, I turned around invoking his forgiveness right away, taking cash out of my pocket in bulk. I was attempting to pretend to be an entirely poor fellow so that achieving a vivid effect. I know my action must be consistent with actor’s lines, so I had to recall the different circumstances which were rehearsed before from time to time. Overall, I felt both urgent and fluctuant during the performing, but it relieved bit by bit till it almost disappeared from my heart.

It was my first show on the stage of GCA after all, I could not behave fairly natural and confident. However, I think I have dug my hidden potential. I don’t need doubt my capability anymore, or it would impair ambition. As you know, sometimes you ought to overcome your negative psychological reaction if you desire success. Besides, it also harden my cooperation realization. If any of us actors performed it without any effort, the whole event must have been failed. Hence, the solidarity is essential as well.

The diet culture awareness

In order to learn about diet culture of other countries, a group of my classmates- Sherry, May, Amy, Viola, John, Tim, Rita, Sam, Victor, three Grade 12 seniors along with me decided to try a Swiss dish. I had known Switzerland was really a kingdom full of gourmet before. Thus, we chose a rare Swiss restaurant in Nanjing called “Bebbis”. On the evening of Thursday, 18th of December, all of our group members reached Orient Department Store Subway Stop by underground, then the Swiss restaurant we had reserved before exactly caught our attention. As soon as we entered the dining hall, we were relaxing in our unique and comfortable environment thoroughly as you enjoy the enthusiastic service.

At the beginning, we could not help taking photos of such distinctive and elegant atmosphere. It is really different from our Chinese restaurant, such as the setting of tableware, decorations, clothes the waiters wearing and so on. They all caused my curiosity unconsciously. Nonetheless, the most key role was the exciting meal! The restaurant just release their special winter menu. I can’t waiting selecting food. I found some of them were a little expensive, yet they tempt me a lot indeed.

When my dishes came, I kept my eyes gazing and appreciating them for a long time instead of eating them immediately. The most yummy dishes were cheese platter and ham appetizer. Cheese is the most famous menu. Despite it had little color contrast, it still tasted nice. I ate it by dipping small pieces in the molten cheese. The secret hid in the mixture of different flavors of cheese. The combination of pure cheese and walnuts shocking my taste buds. Containing both sweet and sour tastes with its rich flavor, I particularly enjoyed it even felt a shame to swallow the whole.

The meal was highlighted with a ham appetizer which was enough to satisfy me. It may includes mushrooms, beef, pork with sauce. Even it was just a little bowl of soup, it was cooked with meticulous care. Those are reasons enough for me to like Swiss dishes. Moreover, the G rade 12 seniors taught us some traditional culture about Swiss.
In China, the food tends to be spicy and salty, whereas the Swiss tends to be sweet. The environment here also has delicate decorated tables, each of dishes has an aesthetic appeal. The customers here all have good manners. Waiters here with respectful attitude behaved considerate. Anyhow, I am willing to recommend other ones to visit Bebbis. The meal here absolutely creates a lasting memory.

the experience of Sculpture Arts

I seldom have chance to visit museum, yet this time I would gain such a chance unexpectedly. I feel quite pleasant surprised about that. On Thursday,Dec.4th,by occupaying the art classes, our class started our mysterious excursion towards the art gallery of Nanjing University, and all the artwork are made by artist –Wu weishan. After this visit, I could not help praising it. Sculpture is an effective arts that causes us curiosity and admiration.

As soon as we stepped into such construction which appears a splendid hallway, all of us was almost astonished and shocked by rows of unmoving characters standing in front. However, if you stare at them carefully, you will find them just status. In that case, the art is showing as a form of 3D. It display the portraiture of various characters which make the gallery like a curiosa storehouse. All the exhibits have a same characteristic- elaborate and full of soul, without a little roughness as if it is a figure in the real world.

Among so many excellent artworks, the one called “Albert Einstein” attracted me a lot. I could not take my eyes off its reality and vividness. It was sculptured in 1999 and the artist used shapes of ellipse (the figure’s face)and some irregular figure (messy hair). Einstein’s brows and wrinkles are curve lines, yet his mouth is made up of straight line. When I touched it, I felt the sandy texture and a little coarse, but looks refined so much. You also can found that he is now considering about something from the expression on his face.

The artwork makes me feel much artistic due to its realistic tracing. It is hard to imagine how great effort Mr.Wu weishan has put in and how tough task he attempted to challenge. Then it also reminds me of famous scientists in the past – Galileo, Newton, and Edison. Relating to the world, I recall the great success Einstein achieved during his lifetime, and that verifies he is such a diligent person who delves into science area and devote for his career. Overall, the artist tends to show a mixture of animation and natural beauty.

I do like the artwork because they are filled with perception and make me come up with fresh and deep thoughts. The specific reasons make me feel that way is the artist takes the notice of the reality of the sculpture, and each line is carved intensively. He combined the figure and nature together as well so that we could feel it spirited, not just a dead body. Besides the appearance, Mr. Wu also aims to capture the heart of figure. As we know, Einstein is a provident one who is known for his intelligence and contribution to human. We were able to grab such mettle through gazing his fixed eyes. I am sure that other ones like such sculpture both traditional and contemporary.

In conclusion, this activity is really meaningful. Through the exhibition, I have learnt to appreciate other’s fruits of labor and it helps us strengthen belief. I think we are supposed to have a good attitude in study like Wu weishan who is determinated on the work.
